Intention: to bring together individuals from varied professions who care passionately about women’s issues, birth, babies and consciousness. Within a sacred circle, we will address the politics of birth, psychological and spiritual principles for birth and for creating community, and learn how this will make us more effective agents of change. You will learn the fundamental principles for working in circle and transforming energy. One of the most important steps we can take in being an agent for positive change relates to our own attitudes and beliefes about birthing mothers and babies, and the primal period. This event will deepen and broaden your perspective, and offer some tools you can use to find greater balance and joy in your work. It will widen your circle of support. Together we can face our sense of isolation and despair and find ways to heal ourselves in the process of working for the good of others. It is clear that the experiences women and babies have from conception to birth and postpartum are connected to widespread family dysfunction and major personal and public health issues: dramatic rise in auto-immune disorders, attachment problems, learning disorders and addiction, as well as depression, anxiety, and violence not only among adults, but teens and young children. Suzanne's Vision of Sacred Circles When we allow ourselves to see and feel the extent of the dysfunction that exists in how we brings babies into the world and care for mothers and babies, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and hopeless. Vision and passion need to be balanced with peacefulness in the face of our own despair. In the context of a sacred circle there is healing and more energy for creating change. There is much to be grateful for and much work to be done. Imagine 2000 such circles gathering regularly over the next few years, each with it's own small core group keeping it vital. Join with other circles they can put on public events, bring in teachers and speakers to help yourselves be more effective. Once rooted at the local level, these circles can form the basis of a nationwide change in consciousness. Bring a friend: Think of a teacher, health practitioner, postpartum provider, therapist, body worker, social worker, healer who might belong in such a circle and please extend a personal invitation. Note: Suzanne often includes brief clips of inspiring films to highlight a discussion of how to make effective use of media to help tranform attitudes & practices. *winner of the Lamaze International Lifetime Achievement Award
